Prisoners' Rights Clinic invites you to become a part of the fight for Human Rights, your Rights, as we strive for a more equitable system for everyone.
The Full Story
The Prisoners' Rights Clinic ("PRC") was founded in 2022 by the Co-founders of Virginia Prisoner of Conscience ("VAPOC"), Askari Danso Lumumba and Hassan Shabazz both proficient jailhouse lawyers in their own rights. As certified paralegals they have sought to make changes within the Virginia Department of Corrections ("VADOC") and fight for the freedom of those who suffer from Constitutional violations committed by the Justice System. With over 50 years of experience combined, PRC was a natural progression in their efforts to dismantle a system of mass incarceration. After 23 years of incarceration Hassan was released in July of 2022, while Askari remains incarcerated. It is that unique bond that makes PRC something fresh and unique. While Hassan works the front lines outside of the prison, Askari works behind the fence, in and out of the law library, to serve the people with paralegal services and advocacy. Since its formation, PRC has added Kenneth "Deuce" Hunter, and Alison Chaffin to the team, creating a formidable force to be reckoned with. All members have various skill sets that compliment one another and ensure that no stone is left unturned in the quest for Freedom, Justice, and Equality in Human Rights.
